May 2012: Joint Erosion Planning & Long-Lining Offshore (2 Topics)

May’s forum will feature two topics. The first topic is the City of Corpus Christi and Nueces County Joint Erosion Planning. Speakers will include Mr. Robert Payne, Mr. Greg Smith, and Mr. Fred McCutchon.

The second topic will feature Bill Blome from the Pew Environmental Trust on Gulf Fishing, who will discuss Pew’s Gulf Surface Longlining Campaign and possible policy changes that NOAA is considering  for the management of Atlantic bluefin tuna.  The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) may consider using oil spill restoration funds to help create a fishing gear transition program in the Gulf of Mexico. These funds could help surface longline fishermen shift to low-impact alternative gears.
