March 2013: Baffin Bay Water Quality and Fish Kills

At March’s Coastal Issues Forum we discussed water quality and biological productivity issues in Baffin Bay. Speakers included Mr. Jace Tunnell, with the < a href="http://cbbep.org/">Coastal Bend Bays and Estuaries Program, and Dr. Michael Wetz, PhD, with Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. The Coastal Bend Bays & Estuaries Program, Kleberg County and Coastal Conservation Association Texas are working to identify issues, characterize problems and find solutions.

September 2012: Bacteria Reduction Planning at Cole and Ropes Park

We’d like to invite you a special Coastal Issues Forum, Tuesday, September 11th. We will be discussing a bacteria reduction planning project here in Corpus Christi and are seeking to gather opinions and information from people who represent different stakeholders interests in the watershed area. We invite you to come and participate in this public process! Bring your concerns, questions and recommendations as the CARP Coordination Committee forms workgroups to help develop this planning effort.

Background and Goals
Data from the Texas Beach Watch Program show bacteria concentrations were higher than the criteria for protecting contact recreation activities, such as swimming or windsurfing, at Cole Park and Ropes Park beaches. The goal of this project is to reduce bacteria levels at the beaches in order to protect people who use the beaches for contact recreation.

Public Participation and the Implementation Plan
The Cole and Ropes Parks Bacteria Reduction Implementation Plan Coordination Committee (CARP) is a community elected group that will be drafting an Implementation Plan – a public plan to reduce bacteria levels at Cole and Ropes Parks. This committee is in the process of forming workgroups to begin planning efforts and we need your help!
